Gear Up Florida

Gainesville (50 miles)

It was another early morning of cycling for the Gear Up Florida team. We left Ocala and rode about 44 miles into Gainsville where we prepared for an exciting police escort into today’s friendship visit. Police officers on motorcycles led our fleet of cyclists and vans 6 miles through the streets of Gainsville to the Arc of Alachua County.

We were greeted by cheers from the crowd and when we lined up in our arrival formation they came to meet us and get our autographs. We definitely felt like celebrities but it made us realize how important our visit was to these people. The smiles on their faces reminded the team why they ride their bikes and raise money for these worthy organizations. We headed inside and enjoyed a great meal with the group.

The remainder of the afternoon was quite relaxing. Today’s sponsor treated us to a few hours at a fitness club where we were able to hangout in the pool and relax those tense muscles. Afterwards she had the team over her beautiful home for a scrumptious meal and some more time to chill out. We tuned into the 6 o’clock news to watch the piece they ran about the afternoon’s arrival. It was totally awesome!

Then it was back to lodging to rest up for three more big rides to the steps of the capital in Tallahassee!
